Can I mix and match flannel with 100% cotton fabrics in making a rag quilt? Flannel "backs" or true mix/match?

Flannel starts out as a coarse cotton broadcloth that gets napped. It's usually weaker than the standard cotton broadcloths and prints sold for quilts, so expect the quilt to have the flannel wear out (and probably split along the seams).
