Farewell to the piano by beethoven?

could anybody please tell me whom this sonata written for? i've heard that beethoven wrote this when he almost lost his hearing completely. and is this song the same with les adieux? if not, what is the other name for this clical music, cause i find it's very difficult to find information about this composition. thanks!
